ALL polished blanks will have some polishing compound in the face grooves. It can easily be removed with a toothpick or soft toothbrush. It is not necessary to clean out the compound prior to flaming. Can be removed after flaming as it does not effect the blackening of the metal in anyway.
Zirconium coin blank with mirror polished faces and straight knurled edge. Zirconium is a soft highly corrosion resistant metal. It is suitable for hand engraving or laser engraving. It’s weight is between titanium and Stainless Steel. Zirc is often flamed to a black color. The oxide layer that forms while flaming is extremely hard and durable. Certain flaming techniques can be done to produce an “oil slick” colored finish.
“oil slick” - achieved with Blue Propane tank, as its lower heat.
black - achieved with Yellow MAP gas, as its hotter. you can not over heat zirc. flame till you see it glow.
